| Forget the machine (no offence.. It looks great).. But I'd like to know more about that cool garage door set you have there... Being from america ours lift up rather then to the side. But that way would be cool for those of us who happen to have automotive lifts in out garage.. I had to do some major mods to alter the path of my garage so I could operate the garage with the lift up. b. |

| Ya sorry about asking about the garage door (in a cnc thread.) but those are darn cool... I should have given a better look at your machine. that top Y bar is maybe 1" stock? Probably 60" from 1 side support to the other? I'm affraid I'm with the others that it will need to be supported in some way. My 1" rail is supported and I get flex. if it was not supported it would be a big problem.. In anycase looks like you will be able to make that adjustment pretty easy although drilling and tapping in case hardened rod to add support is not easy. there is a process which I went through to do it.. Basicly you need a carbide tiped drill which is wider then your threads will be. This is used to get through the case shell of the rail. This is drilled at a high spindle speed. This makes heat. once the proper temp is reached at the bit tip it will cut thorugh teh case hardned surface. you drill that bit through the case. Then stop in the guey center THen you drill some with the right size drill for the screw threads, then tap. be carefull the tap does not come in contact with the case hardned edge of the first larger hole or it will chip the teeth of the tap. then you will need open roller bearing holders (ones you have look closed). b. |

More pictures, I've temporarily solved my flex issue by mounting some nylon castors on a plate on the back of the Y carriage, this has also allowed some adjustability in regards to squaring up the Z. Im now looking for a more lasting solution. as usual all feedback is much welcomed. Regards Andrew |
