Y Chatter

Hi, Just learning the art of CNC. Got my machine to where I'm in the testing stages. Haven't tried to carve a piece of wood yet, just simulating to this point. All axis seem to run fairly smooth except the Y. When it gets to a point on the G-code where it's supposed to be cutting in a certain area It seems to chatter ( the best way I can describe it) or vibrate until it takes off on a longer run, then smooths out. Is that resonance or missed steps, or what do you think?

Thank's Mike

Is this on a curve or a circle? If so, it might just be taking the small steps until it gets to a straighter portion.

Do you have constant velocity turned on (assuming you're using Mach3)? If not and your curves are a series of small straight lines, that will give pretty clunky motion because the machine starts and stops at the end of each line (iirc).

Yes I am using Mach3, and I'm just learning it. I don't know where constant velocity is located, or even if it's rurned on. I looked in motor tuning and didn't see it.
So from what I've gathered from your input, this is nothing to be concerned about?

Update---- I found it in General Config. and it is turned on.

Thank's Mike

It's in one of the settings screens - I don't remember off hand which one. If that's the cause of the stuttering it's nothing to be worried about - I'd just turn on CV mode so it will run smoother and faster. But if that's not it, it could be several other things that would be cause for concern.

Looks like it's on the general tab. Here's more info:
