My 2nd Machine in Progress, Part 2

Forgot to add the materials list. The total cost is about $400 less since I have items which I purchase for experimenting + some items which I buy in bulk

Question Curious minds NEED to know!

kolias,

Nice looking build.
A few questions:
1) What drivers are you using?
2) What CAD/CAM program?
3) Will you be using Mach3 or something else?
4) Materials used, MDF, Baltic Birch Ply or OSB?
5) What will you be making with your machine?

Again, nice build. Looking forward to pic's & vid's of machine in action and projects made.

Randy,

Thanks Randy, I must say I like my new build a lot

1) I’m using Keling motors 282 oz-in 8 wires unipolar. I had the same motors on my 1st build and I was very happy with them. I know unipolar is not very popular but I liked their performance.
2) I have Acad V14 but I also plan to buy the Vectric Cut3D
3) Yes I’m using Mach3, an excellent program once you get used to it
4) Most of the materials are 3/4" Plywood but in some places I used 1” Plywood (two 1/2" glued together. I also used a lot of aluminum for all motor supports, bearings etc.
5) I plan to make my own motor supports using 1/2" aluminum and do other machining with aluminum for friends. I also plan to do engraving and signs just for the fun of it.

It is a very exciting project and for sure I will post a video when she is ready

Buy me a Beer?

That's an interesting idea you have for wire management on the back of the gantry.

What are you using in this pic:

Is that a plastic material like styrene or what?

I got the idea from another member but I dont remember from where and I modify it to my needs. I used a 4" wide aluminum blind I had which I cut to 3" wide to fit in the space I have. To hold the cables together I cut pieces of cardboard about 1/2" wide by 3" long and screw each to the blind with two 4-40 x 3/4" long bolts. Works great but lots of work LOL

I will do the same on the Y axis
