I'm going to build a Mantis V9.1 Machine and I had some questions about getting controller to work with the motors. I was wondering if the controller from Hobby CNC would work with these NEMA 17 Motors. HobbyCNC EZ Driver Board Kit | HobbyCNC Lin Engineering 4118M-02-07RO bipolar stepper motor | Alltronics I got a response from Dave but to me it was Greek. "Our driver boards require 5,6, or 8 wire types that draw from 1/2 to 3A per coil. No mention of NEMA size." Is the answer to my question in there or something else? Lastly the part where the controller accurately controls the motors is completely lost on me. If I was to get the controller above what would I have to do to ensure the software is corresponding with the mechanical movement correctly? |

| Those motors will not work. They have 4 wires, which makes them bipolar, and the HobbyCNC is a Unipolar drive. As he said, the motors need to have 5,6, or 8 wires. 6 and 8 wire motors being far more common than 5 wire motors.

If you're using a different drive mechanism, such as rack & pinion, or a different pitch screw, you calculate the values accordingly. |
