Will this controller work with these motors?

I'm going to build a Mantis V9.1 Machine and I had some questions about getting controller to work with the motors.

I was wondering if the controller from Hobby CNC would work with these NEMA 17 Motors.

I got a response from Dave but to me it was Greek.
"Our driver boards require 5,6, or 8 wire types that draw from 1/2 to 3A per coil. No mention of NEMA size."

Is the answer to my question in there or something else?

Lastly the part where the controller accurately controls the motors is completely lost on me. If I was to get the controller above what would I have to do to ensure the software is corresponding with the mechanical movement correctly?

Those motors will not work. They have 4 wires, which makes them bipolar, and the HobbyCNC is a Unipolar drive. As he said, the motors need to have 5,6, or 8 wires. 6 and 8 wire motors being far more common than 5 wire motors.

You have to calculate the number of pulses it takes to move your machine a certain distance--usually 1 inch -- and put it into your control software. For example, if you're using a 10 microstep controller, a 1.8 degree stepper motor (most common), and you have a 10 tpi lead screw, you'd need to send the motor 20000 pulses to move one inch. (200 steps per revolution of the motor * 10 microsteps * 10 turns per inch).

If you're using a different drive mechanism, such as rack & pinion, or a different pitch screw, you calculate the values accordingly.

Ok thank you very much, this clears just about everything up. Time to find Unipolar Stepper motors then and run some calculations.
