cnc file and knowledge sharing...

While CNC zone is a great place, full of loads of knowledge, perhaps a place to pull out the good bits of information and compile them is needed.

Well, just setting up a location for a few of us to share some dxf files lead to the idea that perhaps something bigger can be put together. So I put some software up, and am working on building a wiki for CNC hobbyists. That and of course a place to share vector graphics and reliefs and other things.

If interested, take a look at www.cncshare.com. It's just getting started, but the more folks we can get to sign up and add to it, the better resource we can build for all of us and those that come into the hobby in the future.

Buy me a Beer?

The most important thing is that the files are organized and easy to find.

I am up for any suggestions. Right now there is a files gallery that is really just a list of what is there. But the wiki pages with links to the files can be built to be far more organized and thus easy to find stuff.

I have a page for vector graphics and for 2.5d files right now. It will all need to be expanded and indexed as I go.

Like the Wikipedia of hobby CNC ?
Let the edit wars begin !

Basic definitions would be a good start. Anyone new to this hobby must be driven nuts by all the terms thrown around, let alone the abbreviations.

For example:
A PC with Mach3 is a control (by my definition)
A Gecko G201 is a drive. A G540 is 4 drives with a BOB
A BOB is an I/O ?? (abbreviations )

So what's the definition of a controller ?

Yeah, I hope to get there. I started a base of interlinked stuff. So much more to go.

For those that registered on the system, can you edit and/or add stuff to the wiki? Want to make sure I got the permissions correct. Heading out of town tomorrow for the rest of the week, so want to make sure that is right in case anyone want's to edit/add info while I'm gone.

Controller = LOML.

That's a pretty cool idea.
The Zone is full of the good stuff, but difficult to find. I've always found it worth the hunt, however.

I am getting ready to head out of town for the week, but I think it is set up now so any registered member can add entries and edit entries. I am trying to put in a bunch of blank entries to be filled in as I go. It's not too complex to link from a word in one page to another page. It's covered in the help->syntax on the site.

I will try to hit as much as I can before leaving town.

Oh, and registered members should see a 'batch upload' option in the file gallery menu. That uses an FTP I setup... you can get the info on login to it from CarveOne if I am gone... if you upload files to share there, then go to the site and do batch, it gives a list of the ftp directory and you can select your files and it adds them to the site.

I need to create more file areas to organize it as we go.

Anyone that has looked at it have any thoughts or comments?

Quite a few users signed up... any thoughts or comments yet?

I'm back from vacation, so hope to get back to adding stuff and getting it organized in the next day or so.
