Free CAD Software

I am posting this in this forum because like many of those in this group, I am a bit Frugal. Upon completing my first DIY router build, I realized I needed a good CAD package to feed my hunger for the hobby.

I am well versed in AutoCAD as I have used it in previous jobs, but couldn't justify paying the price of purchase.

I have stumbled on a FREE cad program that is available through the same group that developed SolidWorks. It's called DraftSight and the commands are 80-90% identical to autocad (No 3d features, only 2D) and save as DWG or DXF. Can also open dwg and dxf for edit.

It must be registered to save files, but registration is free, and Yes, you'll probably receive a hundred e-mails a week from the company, but I think It's worth the hassles. Give it a try.

Been using it for a few months and have only received 1 email and that was to tell me that an updated version was available.

Still has some printing problems, but getting there.
