I got gussets for my build to do the same thing; though they were extruded; what brand extrusions did you use? I like the looks of those more; will have to add a cover plate to mine to dress them up...

hi, i bought the brackets from kjn in the uk, friendly lot on the phone.....

http://www.aluminium-profile.co.uk/a...x90Bracket.pdf

they were about 4 pounds each and their extrusion's pretty good, i used 90x909L for the gantry and 45x90L for the y axis beams,

It's good to have the triangular brace on the brackets

[QUOTE=morrnicar56;1070663]I also demoed SurfCAM. Very easy to use, excellent graphics and toolpaths. But at $10K, not including their high speed toolpaths, I had to pass. If I won the lottery it would be the CAM I buy. I shudder to think what their 5 axis package costs.

expensive stuff isn't it.... :

These are the ones I got from Misumi, they're pretty beefy but the design os pretty utilitarian...

The odd thing is, they accept a self-tapping screw for a cover plate, but there's none on the website. Still can't figure it out, will have to make my own I guess. I paid $20 each, which includes the screws and t-nuts. But since all the other screws and nuts I have are stainless, I swapped the screws out...

Actually this is number 4. The first was just threaded rod and sash bearings to see how the electonics work. The second was my Solsylva build. Third is my current machine (with busted drivevr board!)

you got the bug, its good stuff isnt it, cant wait to get this one into a workshop and watch the swarf flying :.. i just ordered a few more brackets and went with the 90x90, theyre only a couple of quid more than the 45x90's and will do a better job..

http://www.aluminium-profile.co.uk/a...x90bracket.pdf

just received a sample of a 2 part, CATALYSED epoxy ink which im hoping will be good for colouring engravings.

how are you finding the belt drive for the y axis? just noticed you've got one motor in the middle driving both ends of the gantry?

I find it works well.. Heck, aside from the table, I cut all the aluminum parts for my next CNC with it! Just upgraded to GeckoDrive, the link to the rapids test is in my build thread...
