First-Time, Building my Own | | Hey All,
First time posting on the forum here. I've been researching building my own CNC router table for woodworking and maybe, if accurate enough, woodcarving too! I have an engineering and woodworking background and I think this will be a fun project to start.
I am trying for the best possible resolution and I would be absolutely thrilled with .005"
I am still working out some of the design details, but I will build either a 2'x4' table with gantry or a 4'x4'. The longitudinal axis will be belt driven, the horizontal axis will be belt driven, and the vertical axis will be driven by an acme screw.
A few starter questions:
1. Although many have been successful with ball bearings and angle iron, I want to use linear slides or bearings, does anybody know where I can find the best price for slides/bearings up to about 1500mm in length?
2. Regarding timing belts. Where is one of the cheapest places to buy the belting and pulleys?
3. What is the typical longest length you can stretch a timing belt without support?
Still in the design (and funding) phase and expect to start construction in the coming weeks.
Thanks for your help! |
