Hi. Has anyone managed to convert a servo motor's keyed shaft into a collet chuck? Any suggestions would be welcome, basically searched the web for ages now and have not found NEMA56C bolt on collet chuck. I'm using an Allen Brad. F4075 servo motor. Cheers GalaticDan |

Why not just use the servo motor to drive a separate spindle? Then if the servo motor goes bad you don't lose your spindle as well. Look at "http://cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10695" and think about the possibilities. Peace, Alan Last edited by acondit; 07-08-2005 at 01:30 PM. Reason: Link didn't show up. |

| For most servo motors conversion of the shaft to a collet chuck would be difficult. Often shaft extensions are used for light duty work in industry. The issue here is that you end up with an extended load on the shaft to do serious machining. A possible alternaitve is to take a servo motor and rebuild it with a new shaft and end bell. Not easy but can leave you with a very nice spindle. The issue here though is that many of todays servo motors do not have removable magnet or rotor assemblies. If you can get the speed range out of a 3 phase motor, you need, this may be the way to go. Three phase motors are oftne altered this way in industry. One thing to understand though is that making a spindle is a non-trivial pursuit. thanks Dave
