Any ideas on a good servo kit?

I have a routermaster52 that I'm going to retrofit. I do not have the money to update the control so I'm contimplating buying a servo kit for now and running a pc based system like mach3. Also note that my machine has 8 to 1 chain driven gear reducers on it currently and I would like to make those work if I could. I attached two companies that have been possible options for me I would however need to buy an additional motor and drive for the gantry. Currently Im time leasing a haas mill to manufacture my products(but I cant do that forever) I attached a picture of my final piece so you guys can see the detail I would like to achieve. I am a metal caster this is a bronze casting but I machined the master out of wood. On the haas it took 9hours to cut with a .0075 step over. the feed rate crawled at 60 to 80ipm's because these are such huge files with a lot of point to point moves. My budget is about 2,000 US. I'm not thinking of this as a perminant solution just something to get me buy for a year or two.
Thanks

Try the following Motion Control Products - DMM Technology

They carry AC Servos, with the advantage of no motor brushes to wear out and need replacement. Also, motors are tuned with your computer, rather than by ear or oscilloscope. Another advantage is that the encoders are already mounted on the motors and the motors have connectors prewired. Any way you look at it, an awesome package and the price can't be beat.

Hope this helps and good luck with your retrofit.

This ebay seller has kits with used AC servos (brushless with encoders) This is a link to a 200 watt kit but they have kits going up to 1Kw ATM. I bought a 400W kit but I haven't built my machine yet so i cant tell you how they go.

dear friend,
the same motors are still lying arround on ebay. Have you tried jogging or made a test run with them. I am also wanting to buy the 200W servos for a mini 3 axis mill. What do you think, how much torque they can live with?
I just built a lathe using ballscrews and 400oz steppers from probotix. they are good enough but i guess an endmill needs more power at the axis to cut steel. I will buy either this 200W kit or 1000oz steppers from china.
any good experieces with your motors?

Sorry, I can't give you a performance review on my motors/controllers Jasminder.

I have started building my machine but as the frame is still not complete, the electronics and testing are still a fair way off. The rough rule of thumb with servos is that they have approximately 4 times the torque of similar wattage steppers.

The motors I bought have 1200 line encoders (not sure about the ones you're looking at) so accuracy won't be an issue. The only downside I have perceived is the servos lack torque at low RPM's. Mine will be running ungeared so as yet I don't know if that will present a problem.

I'd like to be of more assistance but I've decided to leave the electronics until I have my frame/gantry constructed. It's a good policy to take small bites at a job like this I think!
