Hi All, Following is a building log of my wood router. I will keep this updated as I progress. Big thanks to James & Shogun, for their help. The steel frame is made from 50 x 50 x 4 and is approximately 2m x 1m. The linear guides and rack are bolted to a 5" x 1/2 " x 2m steel strips which are glued to the frame and supported at each end. I drilled a 3" x 1/2" x 2m steel strip and bolted it to the side of the 5" strip before glueing to keep it straight. Last edited by MrGilly; 10-18-2010 at 05:05 AM. |

What's the advantage over the more commonly available (up here at least) 6061 ? Yes, keep the pics coming, it's beautiful

| Hi thanks for your kind words "5083 is the highest strength non-heat-treatable alloy in commercial use. It has good formability and weldability and retains excellent tensile strength in the weld zone by virtue of its as-rolled properties. It is used most often in structures requiring high weld efficiency and maximum weld strength. 5083 also has excellent resistance to corrosion." The truth is we pay a lot more for 6061. |
