#!@#@# I keep buying the wrong thing!

I wanted a nice estop switch so I bought this one on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3#ht_569wt_911

I'm looking at my g540 wiring diagram again. For some reason I thought it was an ac kill, but it's a dc kill. My power supply is only 48v, I assume the 120v on the estop is 120v dc rather than ac. Will it work, perhaps just a bit dimmer?

I read it wrong, it's 120v ac. I know now the light won't work, but will it still work as a switch for dc voltage?

Buy me a Beer?

It should work for DC.

Thank Bob. Do you know if the power supply for the led light can be separated from the switched power supply? I mean can I use it as an estop for my 48v ps and connect a 120v for the light?

It will work fine as a dc switch. The light won't work unless you can replace it with an LED substitute. The ESTOP signal is a low current 5vdc logic signal. The machine will stop quicker (instantly) by using the ESTOP terminal of the G540 than by killing the ac input to the power supply, which has a little slower response time. After seeing discussions about missing the big red button in a panic situation I ordered one of these.

wow, you must have money to burn! 70$ for a estop!?! seriously?

I have a nice metal estop in my machine with a light and it was $12.. Why would you get such an expensive button?

Usually there are two types of indicator buttons, one has two terminals direct to the lamp, in this case you can insert/replace whatever lamp voltage you want.
The other type has a small transformer in the base and takes 120vac in and the lamp holder is on the secondary, usually 6.5v.
In the second instance you can either use the 120vac or sometimes the transformer can be removed or bypassed.

You need to visit automation direct . com or something if you want pretty buttons for your machine (and reasoniable prices).. This has to be a joke though? 69 bucks? I've paid less for used brusless servos and servo drives..

These are very, very high quality buttons. But you are right, they are rather expensive. I would have stuck with them had it been simple to work with. Luckily the seller couldn't be any nicer. I explained my mistake and he refunded the price without any problems. I did learn something in that the estop button doesn't have to be fancy. I'm just going to pick up a decent on off latching switch. Thanks for the link.

According to the G540 manual a normally-closed, latching switch should be used.

Now that I've been refunded for the expensive switch, I'm looking to have a simple spst switch, but a lighted one that turns the light on when the switch is turned on. Radioshack has this one

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...LAID=107596652

Seems to do the job. But I'm not sure how to wire it. I pulled an image of a similar product (but in 12v dc) in the image below. I have zero knowledge of dc current and how the g540 estop is wired. From my understanding it just opens or closes the current loop right? In my situation, the 48v from the power supply goes to the g540, but the estop connects to the -vDC side. Is the the 'ground' or 'earth' on the label? So walk me through this. The -vdc from the power supply go to position 1, then position 3 go to the g540. Then do I draw a 120v line to go to position 2?
