Problem- Old machine need new steppers and driver, G540 with keling kit in mind.

Hello to all,

I build cnc long time ago, after MDF build, there is aluminium machine now.

Machine uses steppers end electronic bought from eBay



I don't know specs of motors but i think they are :
Torque 1.7n.m 245 oz.In.

Length, width and height=3.1"---2.3" ----2.3" =78mm-57mm-57mm
MDF machine worked ok
Aluminum one great, I had 1400 mm/sec without problem.






2 weeks ago machine electronic (driver) smoked (white smoke), so i bought TB6560 4 axis from ebay...


Motors are just stalling, i changed all settings on mach, on electronic 1/2 step 1/8 etc... nothing changed
Motors stall , on low speed they sound like they don't have bearings( khrrrrrr)


after days reading here I'm thinking to go with Gecko g540 kit from keling

I'm not sure what to get... what motors? Is 380 good or i need to go with 906oz motors?

steppers on machine are 2:1 with belt, pitch is 5mm...

Hi GI.
You were running Nema 23s before--About 200 ounces, judging by the size. You DEFINITELY don't need the 906s.

The G540 can't really USE anymore than 8A, so I would go with the 7.3A PSU. That should be sufficient for all four of your axes. The 381 motors run better with G540 than 387s. This is what I recommend:

You should be able to run the 381s geared 1:1. That would give you 250-300 IPM rapids--Or up to 7600 mm/min.

GI: You're asking me to take a lot of responsibility, but I accept. I am confident you will be pleased.

I have never heard anyone complain about G540/381 performance. You should be more than ok with this combo. I WILL backtrack on my 250-300 IPM though, that would be if using 5 TPI ball screws.

This commercial machine uses G540 and 387s, which are slightly slower than 381 motors:

I'm just sending kit, and then remotely setup Mach 3.
I moved to USA, all work i do is remotely online

They just need to load code, zero axis and start machine

Ah! I see. Don't forget you will need four 3.48K resistors. Better send some extra fuses also.

I know about EPP, i need to check that...

As i see, for all people that are starting with cnc the best thing is to go with G540 and keling motors from start... because they will save little more money with chinese cr*p driver and motors from ebay and later they need to spend double money to fix problems and headache they have

The G540 is unkillable, but you CAN kill the internal fuse. It's a special fuse, not generally available. It's the first one on the list. Better send some spares:

I made order.
From kelinginc G540 Kit with 381oz motors, 12.5 amp PS, and Stop switch.

Hopefully i will change this motors with new 381
