How fast a spindle motor should I get?

Was looking at the Ekstrom, with a max rpm of 18k. Does anyone know in general the cutting rpm in different types of materials. I know this depends on bit size, but just in general. Thanks.

Read page 3 for calculations for feedrates for various materials.

Number of cutting edges / teeth / flutes on the cutter. Common values are 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

18K is good down to around 1/8" bits. If you want to use smaller bits at speeds over 200ipm, you might want 24K.

My Ekstrom is 18K and I've been happy with it (or have not wanted for more)..

Although I have a engraving head for the super small bit stuff.
