Porter Cable router question.

Should I be doing any maintenance on my router? Are the bearings sealed or open?

Thanks

Yep

Basic maintenance shuch as blowing the dust out of the motor, cleaning the collet, and putting a bit of lube on the collet nut are easy things to do and things that should be done regularly. Other things such as inspecting and replacing the brushes as necessary is key as well to maintaining a happy router. Over time (ymmv) the bearings will begin to wear out. These are easy things to replace and hard on others, but definitely something that should be done over time.

Does anyone happen to know the size of bearing(s) used. Maybe I will order some replacements in advance.

Buy me a Beer?

Find your router here and you can order the parts. You didn't say what model you have.

Hi Gerry, it is a 9690LR but I was thinking to get some better bearings from VXB or some other place.

Hi,

If you're missing your manuals, you can look up your router on Dewalt Service Net and buy parts. Watch out for shipping with them; it starts around $12. This is the combined parts service for DeWalt, Porter Cable, Black and Decker and Delta.

I have what paper work that came with the router, I will have to find it and see if it gives the dimensions of the bearings used.
Thanks for all the help guys.
