Finished CNC router tonight. Sorta. Project was started last thursday and I have been working on and off along with other projects around the shop. I am using a ballscrew on the x axis, it came with the thomson unit. The thomson unit is pretty nice, 1" rails with a ballscrew in the center. The Y axis has thomson slides, but only allthread for a screw. I'll replace with a ballscrew once it makes me some money as it is. The Z axis is allthread with bronze bushings on drill rod. It will stay in this configuration, but I have to make a better holder for it. I'm sorta waiting until I buy a new router though. I want something with a 1/2" capacity so I can get a DA collet system for it. The one I am using is only about 30 years old ![]() It cuts pretty good if I keep it slow. Once I replace the allthread, I'll be able to get a lot more speed. About the time I replace the ballscrew I need to reinforce the Y axis, as it's sorta loose. I have about 24" of travel in Y, and I'll only use 12 for most projects...so it shouldn't be a problem most of the time. -Jacob |
