| Can anyone tell me how large a stepper I need to power a 30x40 or maybe even a 36x48. cnc router The frame and gantry will be made from 8020 T slot aluminum extrusion. One ball screw per axis, two linear rails per axis. Plan to cut wood on it. Maybe do some metal engraving, and might throw a friends plasma cutter on there for kicks sometime. Not very familiar with how to gauge a stepper. Would this setup be fine with 300 oz nema 23 steppers, or am I going to really be wanting 400oz steppers???? Was planning on using a gecko g540 for driver. Thanks all. Really want to order the electrical stuff tomorrow so quick response would be awesome. Thanks |

| The Keling 381 ounce stepper "KL23H2100-35-4B" is a great match for the Gecko G540 http://www.kelinginc.net/KL23H2100-35-4B.pdf Jeff...

| The 381 oz-in motor and G540 is more than adequate, and is almost 400 oz-in, as you questioned. It has a little more top rpm than a 425oz-in motor and is a very common combination for Joe's 4'x4' machines. Once you get the gantry moving it matters little if the machine is 40 inches or 40 feet long. CarveOne
