Hi all, I have been working hard to convert my MDF CNC build to 8020 and I need a little help. I cant decide on placing my y axis lead screw on the bottom of the z axis or on the top. I have been leaning towards the bottom and have drawn that potential solution. But recently I have been thinking having above may be better. Here are some pics to give you ideas on what im doing. The renders dont show 8020 but you get the idea. The pic is just for fun. ![]() ![]() Let me know what you guys think. E |

| No way would i put it down low like that, it will get coverd with swarf and crap wrecking it in a short amount of time. Up high or behind will be much better, my screw runs behind the gantry about half way up and it's one of the best idea's i,ve had. I cut a lot of aluminium and the stuff flys every where but rarely does it get near my Y axis screw, wish i could say the same for the X axis.? . . .This is the next tweak i've to deal with....!! Go high.!! |

| Thanks for the help, I would have done the middle and had originally planned on doing so. But I came across the rail and bearings for really cheap and it changed my design. Now as you can see I have no room to run the screw behind. So the top it is! I think that will be easier for me to mount the stepper as well. I will update the drawings and see what you guys think.
