I was just looking at the belt drive system on the new Zenbot and was wondering if there is a source for the stepper motor housing or mount setup they are using for the drive belts. It mounts the motor at a 90 degree angle to the surface and covers the pulley and belt I suppose. http://www.zenbotcnc.com/merchant2/ They are talking about 800 - 1000 ipm rapids with this table! If I can build a machine with belts instead of screws and simple mounts like that and also get wicked fast rapids, I'm all for it. I was watching the YouTube videos on it and it looks really fast. I didn't think belts would be that accurate. Guess I was wrong. Thanks in advance. |

| You could buy a motor mount from cncrouterparts.com and adapt it to your purposes. However it looks like they might have a shaft with some bearings on both ends on that machine which would probably be a good idea. It wouldn't be hard to design and you could probably get someone to make them for you pretty cheaply if you can't make them yourself. |

| Why have super fast rapids on a tiny machine...No sooner has it set off than it has to stop..... The drive system ie belt drive is so simple to make...just 5 holes and screw it to the front frame...an idler at the rear and it's done...watch for racking when machining at the outer edges.....or fit 2 belts.

| I would rather go for increased force and thus acceleration plus better resolution on a smaller table. Maybe cut the rapids in half to 500ipm. That's still better than a lot of people here get by with on larger machines. Mine is 4'x4' and I rapid at 200ipm. My next one I'm aiming for 1000ipm, but that will be more like a 5'x10' table, and I'll have high resolution and acceleration as well due to over-kill surplus servos. |
