| Hello, everyone. I am finally seeing all of my parts and pieces start to arrive, and the excitement is KILLING me. The overall concept is a rigid, 24 x 60 x 5" gantry style router, will rotary table at the end. The spindle is a porter cable 890 (this thing is 2.25 HP, and QUIET) with custom tooling that takes advantage of the routers' tapered toolholder to "index", or have great rpeatability, with the various end mills I purchased. I am using Rhino, RhinoCam, and Mach 2 for this. I purchased a 4", 72:1 ratio rotary table from micromark.com. I chose it because of the price, and the simple design (the base of the table is flat on all sides). I realize I will run into limitations (motor speed, worm speed, and encoder pulse). I intend to turn 6" columns of wood on this thing, using carbide endmills. 1. Does anyone have any idea on just how fast I can turn this thing for continuous milling operation with my setup? 2. What size/power/kind of motor will I need to accomplish this? 3. Where is the best place to purchase this motor? Thank you in advance for your help, Spoiled. Just plain spoiled. PS. I saw one of these at work today, and I know I have to get one for my shop. It is a flexible, USB keyboard, that appears to be dust and waterproof, perfect for my controller-PC in the shop http://grandtec.com/vik.htm |
