Heavy duty Wood CNC in Denmark

I have recently started building a new machine.
Having sold my almost 100% completed Mechmate, I finally got the time and energy to start building another machine. This time it's my own design.

It will be more sturdy, more stiff, and take up less space than the mechmate.

I will be using, Supported linear rails for the x-axis, 3Nm Nema23 steppers with 3:1 gearing, on all 3 axis, rack and pinion driven on x and y axis, small ballscrew on z axis.

Hopefully I will be using a 2.2Kw Spindle when I'm done building it, but who knows. Theres always room for updates.

Please, don't look at the welds, I'm using a non gas welder, so I'm not doing the best I can on the welds.

What will the working envelope be? Also, what do you plan on cutting/building with your machine?
I wish I knew how to weld, perhaps having a welder would help!

The working envelope will be 1220x2440x100mm. So quite large.

What I plan on making?, Hmmm, haven't decided yet, but anything is possible...

And yes, a welder would be a good start in welding...

In the background on my pictures, you can see a big white thing. It's a sheet of MDF, 38mm thick. It will serve as the baseboard for the machine.

What are the rails and the gantry resting on ?
are they resting on the base, or on the table ?

The rails will either be mounted sideways, on the sides, or mounted on a angleprofile that then will be mounted on the side.
This is not decided yet.

ok, but on the sides of what, the floating table, or the base ?

Offcourse the floating table, otherwise it would not be alligned all the time with the top.

Ok, i was just thinking that the floating table is only held by the 4 tiny threads, which (seems to) defeat the point of the heavy duty table.But then again, it's probably good enough.
the threads are probably not that tiny.

The 4 tiny threads are not so small again, it's 16mm, so they should be strong enough to support the entire topframe, the only reason for the heavy table, is that the steel was cheap, and I mean cheap. There's steel for around 300$ in the entire table..
And the topframe, will not be lifted more than 10-20mm from the table, they are only used to level the topframe perfectly.

I actually don't have it all designed. I'm making alot of things up as I go.
But until now, I have ended up with the thing I want. So I guess it's not all that bad agin.
I'm going to go with steppers, since they are cheaper. Speed probably won't be as good as with servoes, but cost is a faftor also...

just take your time planning things in your head... and work the bugs out

what size steppers....
