using fire resistant materials is a good point espesially inside of the house ,
i used chipboard on a detatched workshop , reason being drywall is what i used in my last workshop and the walls were punched full of holes , i tend to be a lil rough in the workshop , drywall is something ive concidered covering the chipboard walls with for that exact reason "fire resistence"

A poet knows no boundary yet he is bound to the boundaries of ones own mind !! ........

Because thos principles can be scaled up to almost any size.
    Geof,

    Damn good answer.

Maybe some sound deadening foam will do the trick?

I understand it's an expensive item for the high density stuff.....
Being a Yorkshireman I figured how to get it for nothing

Find a nearby company that uses it...Then be a nice polite chap and ask if you can save them filling their skip (dumpster for the US buds) Most likely by giving it to you they will make a big saving! everyone's a winner!

I've collected a little so far

earplugs will deaden the sound and they don't obstruct your vision if used correctly :-).
Of course they don't help the neighbors much.
