    Default Limit Switch Question

Here are a few pictures of the router I have built, I haven't worked on it in a few years (lot of other stuff going on), so if you have questions it might take me a little bit to get the answer.

I have wired up 5 NC home/limit switches in series, set the pin to 11 on all the axis in the ports and pins input section of mach3 (yes wire is in P11). I checked the voltage at each switch, 0 when switch is closed and 5 volts when open. I wrote a simple program to feed .500 in all axis so I can test the switches. As each axis is feeding I depress the switch expecting it to limit out and nothing happens. What am I missing? Is there something else in mach3 that I need to set up in order for the switches to work? Do I need to do anything on the breakout board?

That is what I have for motors and breakout board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check in the ports and pins where the x++ and x - then x home. I think the x+ and x- check box is the limits.

Go to the diagnostics page, and activate the switches. The Limit LED's should light up. If not, it may be an issue with your breakout board.

Why wouldn't I want both activated? Im not questioning you I just would like to understand why. Should I only have the ++ on for each axis? Also since I am slaving the x axis with the A axis, do I need to turn anything else on (like home slave with master, something like that)?

I will check the diagnostics page, thanks for the help.

Mach3 doesn't know which switch is actually tripped.
So technically, since they are all on the same pin, you only need to configure one, and they should all still work.

So I can set the x++ and x home to active and all the others off and it will still work? I think the problem is I don't have the limit switch turned on in the diagnostic's page. I will check when I get home.

There is no On/Off switch for limit switches. If they are enabled in Ports and Pins, then they are on, and should work.

So I can set the x++ and x home to active and all the others off and it will still work?
Home switches are different. You need to enable and assign ports and pins for each home switch, or the machine won't home for that axis. But all the limit switches will work if you configure just one.

I had my wife take a picture of the diagnostics screen, none of the limit are active. Do I turn them all on or just 1-3?

Start with 1, and make sure it works. You have to trigger the switch to see it light up on the diagnostic page.

Ok got the switches to work, thanks for the help.

When homing each axis can the retract be adjusted to a larger number then have a slow feed to better position each axis? Seams like it wouldn't be very accurate to just feed fast, hit the switch and back off.

    Thanks again

The actual home position is when the switch opens while backing off.
You can change the homing speed in Config > Homing/Limits.

I've seen a macro where homing was done at a fast speed, then again, at a slower speed.

Ok, I have another question. I have two motors on the x, I slaved the second motor but am having issueS with the slave side moving further than the master side. I checked all my settings and they are the same. Any idea why this might happen? I purchased the screws from a friend (used), could the pitch be different? I was thinking I could un it with the slave motor only to see how far it moves and adjust the steps until I get the correct distance. What are some reasons I would be seeing gain over the axis travel?

How much difference are you seeing? Two screws should be within a few thousandths of each other.

If you move back to where you started, do they get back to the original position?

During homing, they can move at different rates if their homing speeds are different.
