    It is whatever you deem acceptable. There is no hard and fast answer. Some folks are fine if their machine can hold +- .015" others want less than +- .003". When I built my most recent router, I was shooting for +- .002" and was close but didn't make it. The rolled ball screws do not have that accurate of pitch to achieve the level of accuracy I would like.

    It also depends on if you are talking about a $1000 machine, or a $100,000 machine.

    It is totally up to you as the user and builder. Like others have already suggested you can build a $1000 machine or million dollar machine.

    I might also suggest that for many ultimate accuracy isn't as important as repeatability and quality machining. Where you put value is up to you, however to get maximum accuracy your costs to build will rapidly inflate.
