Default New Vertical CNC Router Build

    Hi,

I am super excited that I found this forum as I am thinking about building a Vertical CNC Router, similar to the Moslow CNC. I am looking at purchasing this kit from Aliexpress,

I am wanting to cut 12mm ply, 2400mmx1200mm sheets. Can anyone tell me if this kit is suitable/over kill / or not suitable?

Thanks in advance and I'm sure there will be many more questions to come.

    Dave.

for a big table i would be looking a lot more upmarket than this set
very small motors low end driver and low voltage power supply
are u using rack and pinion?
Big table like that would not be good with cheap skinny ballscrews

No, not without knowing exactly what you're building, and what performance you expect to achieve.

The best way to throw money away is to buy motors and electronics before you even know what you are building.

It's actually a pretty cool idea, using rope or cable with pulleys. It's not fast by any means but likely very inexpensive to build.

Nema 17's are 3d printer steppers they have no place in a 8*4 setup, nema 23's are the minimum that kit is oddly specced.

    Seriously?
Do you know the power rating of the transformer? It might run those little steppers on a small machine but something 2400mm long is going to test the durability of any stepper with power from a transformer that can't supply the maximum voltage the steppers can handle. Take a tip and check out what Homann Designs in Highet Victoria has to offer. You'll pay more than the Chinese stuff but you get gear that will take the stress of cutting very large sheets with complex designs and I can testify to his after sales service... Something you can't expect if you buy from anyone who doesn't speak your language and expects you to pay return freight when you burn the motors out, only to be told you overworked them and there is no warranty. BTW. I'm only a Homann customer, Ive got no other connection with them.
