    Default Leadshine Easy servos?

    Hello

I just finished building my CNC-Router.

And I made the stupid mistake of going big in the stepper department...
I bought a kit from eBay with 4 1200oz. Steppers and the DM860A drives supplied by 4 60V power supplies.

The problem is the speed. I can't get them over 1000mm/s which is way too slow for me.
They are coupled with 5mm pitch ballscrews

So now I am looking in to Leadshines products. More specific there two:

    http://www.leadshine.com/productdetail.aspx?type=products&category=easy-servo-products&productype=easy-servo-drives&series=ES-D&model=ES-D808

    http://www.leadshine.com/productdetail.aspx?type=products&category=easy-servo-products&productype=easy-servo-motors&series=ES-M&model=ES-M23440

    My questions are:
Are there motors (4 Nm) powerful enough, for plastics and aluminium? Or should i get the 8Nm?

And shouldn't I be able to get at least 3000mm/s with there motors?

I have attached a picture of the machine so you can see how it is built.

    Thanks in advance!

    Andreas Landsfeldt

I don't have any experience with those Easy Servos, but I suspect that the 5mm pitch screws are a big factor in your speed issues.
Be aware that even 3000mm/min is still very slow.

    Hey
Yeah, I know they require some rather High rpm..
But the datasheet says they go up to 2000rpm. I know there is little to no chance of getting up there. But 1000rpm should be possible? And they have 1Nm at 1080rpm with 40% holding current, so it sounds possible?

3000 would be fine for me, I know it is not the fastest CNC out there, wasnt my intentions :-D

    Hi Andreas
I am using the Leadshine ES-D808 drive on 48V supplies (one for each drive) with the 8Nm motors on my X & Y axis' (two motors on Y) with 5mm pitch screws and a 3Nm motor for Z. I have just bought a 4Nm motor for my rotary axis but not built it yet.
I haven't tested what its maximum cutting & rapids are yet, but have limited X & Y rapids to 4500mm/Min & Z rapid to 1500mm/Min as I have no need to go rapid faster than that, I have successfully cut MDF @ 1500mm/Min 13mm two flute carbide cutter 10mm depth but have no idea whether that is fast or slow compared to what others do.
I am very happy with the Leadshine gear but also never had anything else to compare it with. I have only put mine on the machine straight out of the box and not tweaked them in any way as yet, they have never tripped the drives, or missed any steps as everything I have done so far has come up to spec.
Once I get a few more thing sorted I would like to play with acceleration & speed to find a comfortable limit for the machine so if I need to get stuff done quicker or take heavier cuts I can.

    Regards
    Philip
