How does it detect objects from all sides? What is the long wire for and can you make the wire shorter? It is a SPST so I don't think it will work unless you can convince me.
There are 3 versions of this switch: the stick shown at the link, a hemispheric end, and a cone end. The stick only detects contact at right angles to the axis of the stick (x, y), but the cone and hemisphere ends are sensitive in 3d (x, y, z).
Sensitivity varies with the version and the axis. The stick version is least sensitive (4 to 8 mm in x and y) and the hemisphere most sensitive (0.1 to 0.2mm in the z axis, 0.3 to 0.5mm in x-y axes). If I'm reading the data sheet correctly .
They are normally-closed contact only.
These could be part of a competent digitizer if the other sensors in the system are of comparable accuracy.
