    Exclamation Router Speed Controler

    Hello Guys
Have been a while since I visit this forum. I have a Bosch router on my CNC it is pretty loud. So I did some research and found out that SuperPID will actually lower the noise but it is over $150 . I dig little bit more and found the router speed controller from Harbor Freight Router Speed Control Does anyone using it? I'm thinking to also purchase a hand held tachometer to check RPMs. I know it's not as good as SuperPID but I have 7 weeks old baby that I have to feed and change diapers .

The H.F. is basically a hopped up dimmer circuit.
So no real comparison, apart from no display, you do not get RPM maintenance control.

I also have a bosch colt. I have a router speed control from mlcs or rockler. Anyway, it does what it is suppose to with the rigid that is in my router table. Bit does not work well with the bosch. It slows it down but it then has a heavy pulsing sensation. Kinda like a chugging effect. It was around $35 range. I think rockler has one that's like $80, but that's half way to a pid. Run it wide open for now and save a few pennies is my plan.

I've been using the Super PID for a few months now. It is well worth the money. I works so good. Skip a Latte, brown bag it, this speed controller will make your router into a better machine. Just my $.02.

How is it working for you? Do you using it on CNC router?

    super pid 150
    a spindle, 1.5 kw is 250-300...

if you can listen the loud on a few job, then buy a spindle.. will worth to spend on, because not only quieter, but also can be set more precisely the rpms..

1 5KW Water Cooled Spindle Motor 1 5KW Inverter Drive VFD Grinding Engraving E7 | eBay

this one is 230.. compared with a handheld router and super pid...

probably they have the 0.8 kw spindle too.. works with same inverter..

Huanyang VFD's not the best! Also you have to watch with that spindle you do not go lower than the recommended 120Hz (7,200 rpm) otherwise you burn the motor out.

    al

    those are all true..

I simply compared a handheld router and a spindle.. actually I used long time the harborfreight cutout tool with the harborfreight ""dimmer"" they worked well, cutout tool can be 20-40 and dimmer is 20.. but they are loud despite the lower rpm..

in my meaning, a bosch colt for 100-120 plus a super pid for 150 worth less than a spindle.. in my opinion..

but I don't have to buy anything for others, nor listen all day their router.. :-)

Probably there is a lot of threads comparing spindles to routers. But what you think? Is it worth to buy spindle? I will machine most in aluminum.

just make a simple math, also bosh colt designed as a trim router.. tough it can run several hours..

a spindle can run several day.. a lot quieter..

since you work with aluminum, and bosch colt will not cut tremendous material.. same way spindle will work for you.. just it keeps longer than bosch colt..
if it were mine, I wouldn't hesitate a minute long

a small endmill can be spinned almost with maximum rpm..

there are charts on the net saying what rpm you can apply...

for a 3 mm endmill definitely severa times more than 7000..

Whitney Tool I Speed and Feed Calculator

hss for aluminum 600 feet per min

carbide for aluminum 1000-1200 feet per min..

for a 1/4 dia carbide, their calculator says 15279 rpm ... the feed you can calculate also with the other calculator.. need teeth number and the value for for each teeth as it can take per revolution..

ofcourse before you run these settings, make some test, sure your router can take it.. passes always can be smaller rather than dropping federate..

So you recommend spindle. But a lot of people say spindles are not good for machining aluminum. Router might be loud but it last longer then spindle. So far what I see is the only reason to buy a spindle is to cut the noise.

Okay. I went with SuperPID and received it Saturday. I took apart the router and found that there is a white rectangular electronic part connected between Neutral and Live cables. Should I disconnect it? Or keep it there? It is easy to disconnect since they use tabs to connect everything. Also my router is Bosch 1617
