I'm always interested in seeing your new attachments. I wish I had you skill and knowledge about this area...I'm more of an assembler than designer.

I am looking for a blade holder, something like the Aeronaut automation style. This looks like an easy and flexible system to change blades and sizes of blades.

I'm looking at options to replace my existing long rail system on my plotter. One option I've looked is using 8020 track with a glued belt and wheels.

If you look at approx 41 sec in you see the the 8020 track setup.

    Any comments would be welcome

Is it a pen plotter you're talking about?? The 8020 rail in the video ought to be ok for that....but not for a router. I had a Shapeoko2 which was similar and had all kids of deflection issues with it.

Did you ever change your long makerslide rails? You had mention than you were looking at the Chinese SBR-20 linear slides.

Have you ever looked at the cam plugin extensions for the vector drawing program inkscape? Both have gcode tangential capability.

Good afternoon, wondering if this thread could be brought back to life. I need to make a drag knife plotter and I have access to a few here at the office. I work in the composite mast spar business and cutting carbon fiber is a day to day process. We have a 1.5mx1.2m bed here that runs a drag knife, will post picture of the blade and some more pics if people are still around. Looking for mor einfo on the maco/other methods to get the drag angle as a function of the x and y speeds.

I first thought was to use a high speed pulse counter to generate an angle based on the x/y counts pulse and generate a vector. Converting this vector will radial coordinate system will output an angle ...

Thoughts, as this will be retro fit to most machines as it listens in to the x and y pulse stream... will this work. as this will always be accurate as it is an instantaneous vector angle based on the pwm spacing between the x and y axis in the different directions.

    thanks
    Alex

I'm in the process or building my own plotter/cutter.

Another good over view of a router system with video's would be :

I am also looking to build a cnc fabric cutter like this. I am new to cnc building so I plan to buy a gantry and rail kit. Then figure out how to get the fabric cutting tools. I already have a 16' x 66" steel table for a base.

The OP seems to have 16' continuous side rails. I cannot seem to source those materials. I also am having difficulty sourcing the pneumatic parts.

I have access to a shopbot and a 3d printer so I can make some parts as needed. I wish I knew which rails and gantry parts to buy. Should it be 80/20 or Hiwin or other rail?

Does it seem like a good idea to do a hybrid DIY, buying some of the parts and putting on a larger frame?

hey i am trying to build a similar machine but for cutting foam board for rc airplanes. Is there any way you could share your program for generating the Gcode for rotating the knife head? or is there a free software i could use to do this?

Look at either Sheetcam (https://www.sheetcam.com) or Cambam (CamBam CNC Software).
