Thankfully Dewalt came through and got me the motor brushes today.

    My old brushes:

    What new brushes look like:

And finally got started on a sign I promised to have done by the 28th:

I seen this thing on Reddit, a CNC Machine that rests on top of a stack of plywood.

Looks interesting. It may be a bit flexy in mid span though.

I spend more time thinking of what to do with my scrap wood then anything.

I cut the pocket in the base with a .125" endmill and went a .25" deep for you guys who are going to cut one.

Not perfect but not horrible either, a start into the world of tedious painting.

Something that has worked well for me is to apply shelf paper before vcarving. Then paint and pull off the paper after paint has started to dry. Painting only takes minutes and neatness does not count.
Not sure how it will work on a coarse grain oak. Also having a good sharp cutter helps.

What type of shelf paper do you use? Seems like all I can find is non-adhesive.

    I found some: ebay

would there be a problem using standard masking tape or painters tape for this?

What I have heard is it does not cut well. A gummy mess seems to be the comment I remember.
I have had .5mm square features cut and mask using shelf paper. Also much easier to cover a wide area.
