All of the Onsrud tools on their eBay store are the same ones they sell retail; some as Gerry said are discontinued or old stock, some are odd custom sizes, some metric sizes. You'd need a pretty powerful machining center to utilize a 3/4" PCD endmill for phenolics and other composites.

I believe the "E" designation is used on prototype designs, or customer-specific tooling. They are made to the same high standards as their prodiction tooling. The 65 series are rezor sharp and work on everything from plywood to hardwoods and softwoods, plastics, and aluminum. In fact Onsrud developed the single O-flute endmills for high speed aluminum machining on commercial routers.

Sure when I get the chance. It's pretty similar to what I've shown before. A couple new tools but otherwise similar...

Could you help to describe the different types (advantage-disadvantage) of "sharp" tip and "sweeper" tip for the Spiral-O' flute?
Which one is better? I'm buying 65-018, it should be "sweeper" right? Could they do straight plunge?

    Thanks,
    Bun

If you're just profiling, the 63 series is fine. The 65 series is better for pocketing because it leaves a smoother pocket floor. But the 63 series with its pointed tip gives more clearance for chips, where the 65 can drag them if you don't have enough chip evacuation. They both are center-cutting and therefore can be plunged, though it is usually better to helix or ramp in whenever possible...

Recently I did quite a comprehensive comparison test for 1.3" deep v-carving with 60-degree bits from Amana (In-Groove), Whiteside, CMT, Kyocera and Autek because I had so much trouble with ugly depth step lines. I somebody is interested, I could post the results and what I learned about the process with pictures here or maybe better in a new thread.

O.K. but I'll post separately as to not highjack this thread.

Hi louie and Gerry, I have another question about Onsrud series.
I see listing in eBay such as "PCL583628".
    What is meaning PCL?
I try to search for onsrud.com but not found it in their database.

And what is pronounce for "Onsrud"?
I have no idea to know due to I'm not in USA. Thanks.

Based on the sellers description and the pic, it seems like it's an O flute for aluminum. It's a very good price at $19, but if you don't have a very rigid machine with a lot of power, you may be better off with a 1/4" tool like the ones mentioned earlier in this thread.

You cost me $50 !! After your last post, I bought 50 HSS 1/4" downcut bits. At $1 each, it doesn't matter if they don't last too long.

The 50 bits are Onsrud HSS, much more than $2 retail.

Check out bamcarbide.com. Some good prices there, though I haven't ordered from them yet. You can get Onsrud endmills cheaper at Enco than from Onsrud directly. drillman1 on eBay for the smaller stuff. Also Kodiak Cutting Tools for aluminum endmills. I don't buy cheaper no-name import stuff, since you can get high quality US made stuff for not much more. Basically, don't cheap out.
