Are there more brands of digitizing arms other than Faro and Romer? Immersion ( Microscribe) do not manufacture arms anymore, they just sell until stock is empty... What are options if one do not want spend $30K. Regards Mika |

Hello Mika I just evaluated various arms and there is at least on more company: Metris http://www.metris.com/ Metris is a Belgium metrology company that recently acquired the 3rd lagest arm manufacturer (an Italian company, sorry I forgot its name). There arm looks good to me and I think it can keep up with the other competitors. But it's it the >30k EUR range, at least the metrology grade model I evaluated. Hmm. About a year ago I looked around for a cheap arms but we then decided to wait a bit until we could spend >30k EUR on a pro solution, so I cant tell you much on low priced arms. All three companies sell used arms by the way, so maybe that's an option? One company I remember is Zett Mess: http://www.zettmess.de/eng/ I don’t know technical specs nor how much they quote. cu Flo Last edited by frist; 12-22-2008 at 01:17 PM. Reason: I just fixed the quotes. |

It depends on what you want to do. If you want high accuarcy then Faro and Romer are the only options you have for Arms. Microscribe and the other $30k options work but probably wont get better than .3mm. A Fusion arm from Faro is under $30k and it will do under .05mm. Romer depends on when you last placed it on a ballbar but it's in the same range. Best advice, if it's in climate controled lab and never going to move a Romer is ok. If you want to use it on the manufacturing floor and move it around spend the money on a Faro. If it's low accuarcy then there are some software packages that actually work with a 35mm camera. Probably in the $5k range and get .5mm or better. |
