    scanner that works with Mach

Does anybody know of a scanner, (probe or laser) that will work with Mach?

    Thanks!

There is a very easy and cheap way to generate a 3axis probe scanner for Mach.

you need a digital micrometer with a serial port..

you have to write a short software that generates you a block of nc code that contains the x y coords and a drillcycle in each points z
if the probe is in lower position the incomming values are dropped if the probe is lifted about 1mm the walues are stored until 5 values are equal!

parallel to the NC prog you put the same coord table to your scan program
1 the nc code enters the 1st position ... as long as the probe is not lifted the values are dropped
the drill cycle moves the zbelow until the z axisincreases over 1 mm then
stores the value by a fifo until the 5 values are equal... - if this situation is given the drillcycle is in the lower rest.. and the probe is moved upwards .. no store the value to the recent x and y coord ... the machines pulls out the drill and enters the next pos to drill what causes you probe to go to lower position and moves you table forward! ist't very fast but works excellent!

    - oh i forgot - you have to substract the 1mm offset from you z coords..... afterwards or in realtime...

Thats intersting. Price is right. Looks like they only take Euro for the pro model. Thanks for the lead!

Rather easy to explain - When you know where the laser source is positionned and where the camera is located - both expectet as o dimensional locations and both is not the same in location - you are able to use the ccd lines of the ccd chip that are orthogonal to the laser fan line as triangulation sensor - Problem is the precision because you don't have a 100 % quality lens in effordeable cams . Some try to compensate this using a reference picture and matching the pic received by the cam with a ideal virtual one in the pc. some professionals use just one line triangualtion scanners und move the sensor via 3 axis along the model (e.g. automotive prototyping of car clay / design parts) - the more expensive way....

Depends on what you need to reach in precision!

Just to demonstrate the application go to the link I posted above and there are demonstrations and examples of actual uses for this tool

TriAngles supports XYZ, RAW, DXF, STL, VRML and OBJ probably one of them can be imported into your system
