I finally decided to build a touch probe with the goal of simple construction but preserving best stability and accuracy. See: http://www.vinland.com/Touch-Probe.html What software do you suggest that is free/low-cost to convert the point cloud to a mesh. I appreciate any help and suggestion. I have spent too many hours googling it already. Bertho Boman |

| Very nice job Two comments: - Dust getting inside will affect reading so try to seal it with something like thin rubber from a condom - Make the probe tip removable and have an industry standard interface so you can cheaply use good quality, profesional tips in a variety of configurations |

| Try MachCloud, it's free. http://www.machsupport.com/downloads.php

| Thanks CNCuser1, The probe is actually designed to accept a 5mm threaded ball tip. That size has the largest number of available tips at http://www.itpstyli.com. I do plan on sealing it but I have been too busy to follow up on that. MachCloud: I tried MachCloud initially since I am using Mach-3. It worked on a small sample but after hours of trying every possible combination I gave up. I posted the sample file at the Mach website but there is no support and no one else converted it. The AccuTrans is a great find for just $20. Bertho |

| I'm not much help, but I've installed a laser displacement sensor for my CNC mill. Got it working and then ran out of time. I'll get back to it in a couple months (winter project for me) I bought rhino thinking it would work for this issue. This is, by far, the biggest issue for scanning. PLEASE, post if you find something you like. Karl |
