    Need ribon cable

I am in the process of putting my electronics in an enclosure. I am using two boards that are connected via a parallel cable.

Does anyone have a source for a parallel ribbon cable, as opposed to the typical round cable?

    Thanks
    J

Almost any electronic supplier if standard ribbon, I use DigiKey, BTW, you can also get ribbon cable with shielded covering.

Not to mention that any computer repair shop will have several different kinds of ribbon cables already made up, probably ranging from about 9 conductors to about 25 connectors.

So far I have not been able to find a pre-made parallel ribon cable.

Does anyone have a link to a supplier?

How about: PMDX.COM - Products for CNC and motion control applications
    or

Serial Cables & Parallel Cables - IEEE 1284 Printer Cables, Modem / Null Modem - ComputerCableStore.com

It is very simple to order the cable and IDC header connectors and make your own up, just use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the cable and carefully position the header connector in a vise and when the cable is aligned, just tighten the vise, I prefer the ribbon with the 10 colours repeated across the ribbon for ease of identification when stripping.
Another advantage of making your own is custom length and that you can exit the header 180° if needed.

Thanks Al, but I am really looking for an off-the-shelf solution for a set of plans that I am compiling.

Go to your local computer store. This is a standard cable for them. Either 9-pin or 25-pin.

I don't think it is a standard item, based on the fact that I have not been able to find one.

Do you have a link to a source?

IMO, most ribbon cables available locally etc are going to be IDC header connector, if you need 25 pin to 25 pin D connector on ribbon you are most likely going to either get them custom made or make them up yourself.
Due to the variation in possible length, pretty much makes this a custom item.

    I think you're right.

I'll probably just end up making one for this particular project.
