    Default 4th axis - ESS > G540 + (KL-DB25 + G251)

    Hi all,
I am having issues hooking up a 4th axis to my current set up. My goal is to hook up a new KL-DB25 breakout board to the ethernet smoothstepper which is already connected to a G540. My 3 axis CNC uses all 4 outputs of the G540 as the X- axis has the slave A-axis. I have purchased a KL-DB25 breakout board and a G251 driver to connect to my nema 23 (4-th axis). I cannot figure out how to add a second breakout board to the ESS and set up the pins to have 5 or 6 axis. I am including my current diagram. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Marc

    Dubdzine,

Try removing the 5 volt port jumper (26) on the Smoothstepper and connecting 5 volts dc to the breakout board.

    Jeff,
I will def try that. But how do i let the smoothstepper or mach3 know that i have connected another breakout board and how do I define the pin number? How do I differentiate the G540's pins from the KL-DB25?
    Thanks

    Dubdzine,

See attached sample image, the X and C axis use the same pin numbers however the ports are unique.

    Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the screenshot! I have noticed the step and dir ports have a 2. I will give it a try later on and keep you posted. It was very helpful.

    IT WORKED
A simple change of the port # got the 4th axis to spin. Unfortunately it is only spinning in one direction only. The DRO does show movement of the 4th axis in both directions. Do you have any input on what I am doing wrong? thank you.

    Hi!
I have the same settings of you, except for the KL, I have the C10 breakout board
I connect to the 14 and 16 output on the port#2 and I entered these settings into mach3 motor outputs, but to get the led light ON on the C10 I need to check DIR LowActive or Step LowActive
The rotary nema23 stepper is HOT but nothing move ... when I use the jog 4+ or 4- .... nothing!

All my wired connections are the same as jalessi diagram

Can someone help me please ?

    Dan
