Doosan S280 Turret rotary encoder

Hi

I have a lathe Doosan S280 with 8 stations turret.
The rotary encoder of the turret is broken and needs to be replaced.
The problem is that there is no manufacturer name or model number on it or in the machine's documentations.

Can anyone help me getting this information or even better direct me to someone who sell this rotary encoder?

The local service provider for Doosan is no use.

Thanks

Buy me a Beer?

As a last resort, if you have the details of the encoder connections on the control end, you may be able to come up with a sub.
To find out the resolution, remove the encoder cover and if necessary remove the circuit board above the glass disk, the resolution is generally printed on the disk itself.
Is it a through-hole style or shaft style driven by a coupler?

Thanks for you reply

The rotary encoder has 5 bits.
The encoder outputs a binary code using these 5 bits.
The encoder also has a strobe bit that is used to synchronize the encoder outputs with the machines ladder.

The machine uses only the first 3 bits for station number and also the 4th bit.

The code for station no'
1 is: 1 1 1
2 is: 1 1 0
3 is: 1 0 1
4 is: 1 0 0
5 is: 0 1 1
6 is: 0 1 0
7 is: 0 0 1
8 is: 0 0 0

The strobe bit is "0" each time the other bits are stable.

A photo of the encoder is attached.

I have come across absolute encoders, but not quite this format.
I would assume that they have used something off the shelf.
Much of the Japanese made machinery use Tamagawa products.
Although the case has the appearance of Heidenhain?
If it is only 5 bits then due to it being rather coarse resolution, they may use other detection methods than optical?
Try looking up other Doosan sites if the local rep is not much use.

The S280N uses this encoder (different machine)

RAA-60-0010
Looks similar but not not exact

Are there any markings on the turret ?

From what I saw in the manual, sect 8. this machine has a Sauter turret
either a
0.5.450.212 (W/O Rotating tools)
or a
0.5.460.212 (With Rotating tools)

Also this thread might be of use

Thanks MisticMonkey,

The encoder you mentioned does look like it would work.
Do you have the electrical drawing of the S280N?
If you do, could you please send me the page of the encoder's connection?
What is the exact model installed on your machine?

I'll try to compare your drawing to mine to see if they are the same or not.

By the way there are no markings on the turret or the encoder.
The machine was not maintained well enough for years.

If you are still stuck after this long lol, give me your model and serial number and I can get you the right part no problem.
As a matter of fact i probably have one floating around. Biggest issue here is making sure we have correct pin out for swaping of the encoders, which i can get with small difficulty.
