Puma 12 jury rigged?

Our Puma lathe will cycle start with the chuck open or closed. I suspect that at one time it was jury rigged to run because the proximity switches were damaged. We've now replaced the switches but the problem remains.

In itself, cycling with chuck open or closed is no problem, but we can't run a bar pull program.

No one involved with jury rigging the machine works here now and there are no notes on how this was done.

The chuck open by M code doesn't work.

Here's the list of M codes we have:

M0
M1
M2
M3
M4
M5
M8
M9
M30
M41
M42
M46
M47
M68
M69
M74
M75
M76
M77
M78
M79
M98
M99

I've read other posts about bar pulling not working. And suggested programming. That's not it.

We called Daewoo service after they installed the new proximity switches and they never returned our calls.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the list of parameters and keep relays for the machine? I suspect it may be a keep relay setting.

Ty, phx, but 'M31' isn't on our list. I'll try it anyway.
M69 times out and throws the error.

Clamp light?

This is a Puma 12L-C with a Puma 10S OT-C/F: 152936A [Fanuc] control.

dcoupar, the M and G code lists are on photo copy sheets. This was a showroom model and on reading the manuals I find a lot of the nc functions don't work. There's no auto corner rounding [,C or ,R] or user macro.... I'm lucky we have any fixed cycles.

You're over my head.... as I say we have no one here now that knows what was done. I don't know what a 'keep relay' setting is. There's a manual labeled 'Parameters' but who knows if anything is correct for the machine. Certainly the programming manual isn't.

We pay our bills promptly, but Daewoo service doesn't return our calls, except for scheduling service. After the tech replaced the proximity switches he said he had a four hour drive and left. Another problem there.

What is the serial number of the machine?

With the machine should have been a thin binder with all of the machine parameters listed, as well as the Keep Relays, etc. Possibly in the electrical cabinet. These "keep relays" control many things in relation to how the machine operates.

Who do you call for Daewoo service?

I'll have to get back to you on that serial number. That I didn't write down.

Thank you for the reply.

The serial number of the machine is 440322 and listed as a Puma 12LC.

Unfortunately, I can't look at any parameters to see which, if any, bits have changed. I have the keep relay page with me.

I don't want to say anymore about Daewoo service.... if I post the peeps we call they'll probably put us at the bottom of the list once or twice of companies to send a tech to.

We can't power the machine up at all now... it's nothing I did. It was running last week, now I can't get the crt up. Black screen. So the bar pull problem is on hold.

I will say it's two weeks before they come out!

When we called about this bar pull problem, the peep on the other end said the call would be forwarded to the tech in the field. Geez, he's not going to drop what he's doing and try to help without any access to the history/paperwork/manuals back at the office. They need another tech to man the phone when one is free and they don't have that.

Oh, that chuck clamped light? The one above the keyswitch for selecting od/id chucking? That light is always lit.

Which keep relay parameter do you suspect has been changed?

Ty.

Are the promixy set correctly? If it takes longer time then what is set in parameter to get the signal from switch it will throw a time out alarm.. You could check if there are any lights on the promixy, manually open/close chuck and atleast one of the switches should turn the ligth on/off if they work....

I installed the second proximity switch myself. Both are set correctly and both are positioned at the very end of travel. Both light at the end of travel.

I'm not making myself clear on this one. The old proximity switches didn't work at all. One was disconnected. The machine would still run. Someone found a way to bypass this problem..... it's why I say it was jury rigged.

We'd like now to return the machine to normal function. So that the chuck open/close commands will work and we will have bar pull again.

We looked further into the problem of the machine not powering up and scheduled Fanuc to come out tomorrow [9/20]. Daewoo service answered our call and shifted the service to Fanuc. Fanuc service can come the next day.

Another problem.... Fanuc service kept asking the number of the main board. There is no main board, there are three boards.

Geez... and he kept insisting we could just look down from above and read the numbers off the boards. The board assembly has 2" of clearance above the metal enclosure. We don't have anyone with a 1" head who can squeeze in to read the alphanumerics. We finally just pulled the entire board rack out to read the alphanumerics.

What we did spot today was that one of the fuses was blown on one of the boards. Fanuc is coming tomorrow. We'll have the power up problem fixed and I'll post here which parameter was changed since we've also scheduled the bar pull/chuck open/close by program command solved.

Thanks for answering. I'll let you know what the parameter change was.

Fanuc didn't come today, nor did they call and say they wouldn't be able to come.

Do you have the keeprelay parameter sheet that did come with the machine, check the eletric cabin, there are often attached to the inside of that door.. It might be some settings there to set if machine got the promixy switches.

Custer

I know this is a big ask, but how many pages is the parameter manual, I have problems with my Puma 12, but I have no documentation what so ever. If it isn't that big, can it be scanned and emailed, see if there is anything for my machine. If it is a daewoo manual, I have the Fanuc 10 maintenance one, but thats it.
