    Daewoo Mills

I'm looking at buying a DMV 3016 or 4020. I was just wondering if anyone has one or even another newer daewoo mill, just want to know what you think of them, and how they compare to other mills you have ran

    thanks for your input

We had the 4020's 4 of them and the spindle bearing went on all of them in less than a year.So company got rid of them and got three new mori's.

    Wow....
I have heard of some spindle problems on some of the older lathes, but never on a mill. I would have to wonder what warmup routine was used, material cut, way more information. That would be one heck of a coincidence for four spindles to go on four machines in the same shop.

Jackson, we have 2 DMV 4020 Daewoo's w/ 10k spindles. We bought both mills new in 2002. We build injection molds. We do everything from roughing to hardmill finishing with both machines. We hav never had any kind of trouble with either spindle. Both machines have ceramic bearings. Often times we run at 10k for 36 to 48 hrs. straight.
About the only issues we have is the machine growth in the y axis. We just have to keep a close eye on our oil cooler settings, in order to minimize this.

I have Mynx 540 same as the 4020 , have had 2 spindles in this machine with only 850 cut hours on it . It has never been crashed by us , but because of a software problem in the machine when it was beening installed . This caused the facer to go down in Z and wipe out the vise hard jaw and crack the drive dogs on the arbor .
I dont know if this caused the spindle to go out the first time some 450 hrs later . the second spindle had a pitch change with 200 hrs on it along with a oil discharge from the lower seal area

    Yes you may ask...

Nelson, South Island of New Zealand.

I want to know if this is an isolated problem or if other people are experiencing the same or similar thing.

    Daewoo Spindle History

    We purchased a new 4020 Daewoo 10-06 8k spindle
The first spindle came to a screeching halt at 351 hours later
    Installed a new spindle chiller
    Installed a new spindle
The second spindle started making noise at 950 hours
The third spindle installed at 1025 hours(The guys are still here)
We will see how long the third spindle lasts
I am no Expert only recording History
I would also like to hear from anyone else reguarding their spindle history

    Unhappy Daewoo Spindle

Even though I have had a couple of spindles go out, this is not my main gripe.

What I want to know is that those of you who have had the same problems, how have your "dealers" handled it. Has this been a positive experience, or have they given you the shaft? My guy is adament that I caused the problem and is not in the least interested in dealing with the situation.

Daewoo don't want to know about it and keep sending me back to the agent. One big calossal mess.
