    DAEWOO Puma 8-s problems!

Bought machine May 2009 and battery problem dumped all parameters shortly thereafter. Reloaded parameters that came with machine, but had to tweek several to get working. We have never needed to thread until recently. *problem* thread pitch will not repeat. Position Coder is brand new. Think it must be a parameter problem but have exhausted all efforts to correct ourself. Anyone please help make suggestion of possible problem or changes we can try! Thanks! Also since parameters were lost RPM display on control station does not work. RPM only reads zero. Thanks!

If u can't see the rpm u cannot thread ever. Off the top of my head I can't remember the parameter for turning on and off the spindle encoder but I think it's 7041 ish never the less you can't thread unless the encoder is showing up with a count. If not parameter get a new encoder if new encoder doesn't do trick check ground wire off encode cable you,ll find that attached to frame directly underneath the drive cable is connected to.

I'm not sure that is a correct statement. If the machine does not see the encoder for the spindle, it will not feed in IPR mode. Early Daewoos have a RPM panel meter, ours does not show up on the screen. (F11) Will the machine turn a part in IPR mode?

Daeoo Puma 8-S with Fanuc 0T-c Control

Yes the machine will turn a part in IPR mode. G99 (IPR) is the modal setting for the control, we never use G98 (FPM).

    Control is fanuc 0T-c

Question. Our control has no 7XXX series parameters. Should there be none?

We are still struggling....can run the machine turning parts....but cannot thread because the lead will not repeat....we have no RPM display on the control, it constant reads "0" even when the spindle is running.

We have already replaced the spindle encoder...brand new from fanuc last week. We have checked the cable from encoder to drive for continuity and we've also verified ground.

Any more ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Well, I would start with basics now. Check the timing belt on the z (if it has one), turret clamp system, etc. I've had many a service call that was reported as a control threading problem to find something mechanical. My thought is even if a parameter is set wrong somewhere, it should still pick up the correct lead, but the pitch might be wrong. Encoder problems from my past experience usually show up even in turning in IPR. 7000 parameters are blank a lot of the time, that may or may not be normal for your machine.

ok thanks....since we've got a new encoder and verified the continuity of the cable, next up line is the spindle drive. i was just about to order one after todays frustrations, it'll cost me $460.00 restocking if that doesn't fix it, or about $3000 if it does. what do you think the odds are that could be it?

another note - the machine will run a program including turning or threading cycles with the spindle encoder cable disconnected; with no alarms.

Slim I think, but i've been proven wrong more than once. Can you run in constant surface footage mode right now? I know these questions seem stupid, but it is all linked together.

Thats not right. This machine has an external encoder belt driven off the spindle, is this correct?

yes we can run in constant surface footage mode.
yes it does have an external encoder belt driven off the spindle.

Then here is my guess. The machine is running off the spindle motor feedback, not the external encoder. Sounds like 1 parameter is off somewhere. This would throw off all feed moves, since the parameters for the position feedback would be tuned to a different ratio. I do not have 0 manuals here i don't think. Ill look though.

The closest manual I have is a 15 here. In that series I would check parameter 3001 bit2. But not sure if it's the same on that control.
