    Lynx 220 - Pump Noise

    <begin gripe>

    Hi folks... I work in a small shop right next to a Doosan Lynx 220L. The pump on this lathe is loud - Is it normal?
    My previous shop experience was working with all Mazak equipment. Not loud, very good to work around - no earplugs needed.

    Our only relief comes when the lathe gets to sit for a while and not get used. The e-stop is our friend....

    Are we doomed to headaches forever?

    My boss said that when he went to look at another Lynx lathe it was just as noisy. what's up with these machines?

    The only fix I can come up with involves a large hammer...

    Thanks in advance for any help....

    <end gripe>

    air in your hydrolic pump/hoses can cause major noise

    the noise of the pump is "loud" as normal but the fanuc spindle motor fan makes almost more noise.

    otherwise replace the hydrounit for a other type (doosan also has it)
    and than its as silent as your fridge...

    Here's the deal, u probably have an older style pump which where white vertical pump and operates via like 12-14 pistons and yes they can be really loud. Try the following.
    1) on top of pump you will see a set screw with a nut arount it, measure the height of the set screw from casting.
    2) turn outer nut and screw out set screw with machine running, you'll notice the loud noise dissapear.
    3)screw set screw back to original position
    this removes the air from top end of pump, usually works.

    If not, possibly cavatating pump or starving it check for pinched lines below bracket holding pump. Check oil lvl's . If still doesn't help get someone qualified to look at it.
