Serial number?
We have a broken live center in the tailstock of our Puma 8HC-3A, and do not have any mechanical drawings of the machine.
Can anyone help on methods of removing the damaged live center? And possibly having it reground?
Cheers,
Steve
Never mind - I got the livecenter out.

attached is the parts breakdown for the manual and programmable tailstock for the most recent 8hc
If it does not apply, I'll need the serial number.

dhardt,
Serial #520005 for our Puma 8HC-3A
From the drawings you sent it appears that we have the Programmable tail-stock. I used the item #55 Lock nut to force out the live center.
Something I don't understand though, when I try to re-insert the live center, it's like it will not go in far enough, and thus the tapers do not grip. No matter how hard I try to seat the live center, it just doesn't grip, & I can easily extract it by hand. I have tried other MT4 centers, with the same results.
Is there some sort of hard-stop inside that prevents the taper from going in further?
Cheers,
Steve E
Set the tailstock to "retract"
Try it there.
If it doesn't work...what is measurement of space remaining?
What is depth/length of bore/taper?

dhardt,
Thanks for the follow-up. We have been able to get a different live center in, & it was very simple - I just wiped out the tailstock bore with a rag & the new center went right in & seated as expected.
My other major problem with this Puma is the spindle, I think. The machine is loosing about a gallon of hydraulic fluid in 2-3 days. I just pumped out all the coolant, & it was about 24 gallons of hydraulic fluid, & no coolant that I could see. I can see a steady drip from the bottom of the chuck, & suspect the mechanism that pushes/pulls the draw tube is leaking around some seal
Could you see if you could send me a print of the spindle?
Cheers,
Steve E
If the Actuator is leaking, how will a spindle drawing assist?
There is an assembly drawing in the Parts Book. (to show you how to get the actuator off, and replace it)
If you wish to repair the actuator, it is NOT a Doosan part. Please contact the maker of the Actuator.

dhardt,
My bad - I said spindle, but was thinking the actuator. We think it is leaking, allowing hydraulic fluid to migrate along the outside of draw-tube, & get spun out when spindle is turning.
And sadly, we do not have a parts book.
Cheers,
Steve E
Doosan sells parts books.
One was included with your machine, but if it is gone...you can buy another one.
I will gladly post or give away any of our non-copywritten material. I do give huge amounts away - every day.
The part book is a sale item. Those sales help to keep our doors open. That enables me to read and assist with knowledge for the questions on this thread.
If you like my support of you...support me by purchasing our products.

See attached.
This includes both of the available options. Kitagawa and Hwacheon actuators and chucks.
