I agree with Gerc, that most machines will pick up the offset change with the next axis move.

I had some personal days off that I had to use up or lose before May so last night was my first day back to work since this conversation started. It’s not that I doubted anyone but it was one of them things I had to see for myself. To my amazement I found that it is exactly as Ted and others have stated. I did numerous tests on both X & Z axis. I found that if you change the wear offset for a tool in operation it does take effect on the next axis move. The Absolute numbers correspond with where you are at in the program but the Machine numbers are shifted by the offset amount. I cannot believe I have not come across this before and may have never if Ted had not brought it to the surface. Thank You Ted

Brent, no need to feel bad, in my 25 plus years i haven't run into this either. like i stated earlier, i never make an adjustment to the current tool running, so i'm guessing that is why i never ran into this problem. but i still found it surprising. just goes to show, now matter how much you know, you can always learn more. thanks Ted for bringing this up, i have learned something.

I just wanted to post this comment from a well trusted source. As it turns out most controls have had this option since Fanuc 6T and before. Caution... If your machine applies wear offsets on the next axis move and it will except larger wear offsets and your not aware of this feature you could get a BIG surprise and be left scratching your head wondering WTF just happened.

The "Next axis move" excludes canned cycles and profiling with G1 G2 G3...

On page 254 of the big yellow fanuc series 0i-MODEL D parameter manual.

Parameter 5002 bit #2 LWT Tool wear compensation is preformed by:

    0: Moving the tool.

    1: shifting the coordinate system.

Note.. this parameter is valid when tool geometry/wear compensation is enabled (bit 6 (NGW) of parameter No. 8136 is 0).
