I've drawn a 3D solid model in Solid Works, all flats, no "contours". Can this be imported into Cut2D ?
If so, please explain how.
Thanks for any any help,
Steve
Jon,
Very interesting stuff. I do want to see more details.

Create a drawing in Solidworks, full scale, and export it as a .dxf

I don't remember seeing save as ".dxf " in SW last night, I'll go look again.
Thanks
Okay, I'm on my PC now and just checked again and .dxf isn't a choice in SW.
There's allot of other choices but none that I see listed as working with Cut2D, except .pdf and that doesn't work.
I'm just learning SW and I did the 3D extruded model and not a 2D drawing. I'll try that. Doing the 3D model was very easy even though it has several levels and differing depth of extrusions and angles.
Maybe SW does not give the .dxf option for 3D objects. Try to use the export option with a 2D drawing in SW. Cut2D does not do 3D toolpaths and it is only a 2D CAM program as far as I know.

Wes
Right, you and Gerry are both correct, SW will only save as .dxf in the drawing and not the 3D part, which makes sense. I did redraw the part and was able to save as dxf and import it into Cut2D just fine.
Sorry about all this, this is the first usable part I've designed in SW and first one I ever tried to use with Cut2D (again, from SW that is).
And I wasn't trying to do any 3D toolpaths with this, just doing the design in 3D first. A** backwards I guess.
I appreciate the replies and help,
Steve
Just to follow up on this, I just found that SolidWorks has a fantastic feature called "make drawing from part" that allow you to easily convert your 3D model part into drawings !
You can then select any side of that part's drawing, save it as a .dxf then import that into Cut2D, Awesome ! I just tried it and it's really easy and seems to work great. I'll be designing parts like this allot now.
I have cut2d and am wondering how to change fonts in the program, I can open a new project and select a font to use but then when I want to change it the font will not change it continues to use what ever I had to start. Is there something I am missing. I thought you could use more than one font, Thanks
Hello br1,
Cut2D will use any True Type Fonts installed on the PC and you should be able to edit / change the font and text by,
Selecting the Text
Clicking the Text icon
Selecting a New font from the list that appears
If this is still failing please contact support at Vectric
Tony
Hello Br1,
When you use the Cut2D text option if you keep the text on the drawing board highlighted you will be able to change the text in the Create Text window and hit the Apply button and see the change on the drawing board. You can do this to compare the different fonts until you see the text as you want it. As long as you keep the text vectors selected they will change as you select and apply the various fonts.

Wes
Thanks for that I see what you mean I will keep playing with it.
It is possible to use mouse wheel selecting different fonts like in toolpath preview and selecting different materials? I mean without hitting enter every fonts ?
Hello Orkki,
Yes the mouse wheel does work for navigating thru the font list in Cut2D, but the vectors on the drawing board do not change with the movement thru the list. The vectors only change when you hit the "Apply" button.

I was searching for the original Cut 2D release date, wow 2008. I think I ordered my Cut 2D in 2009 look how far its came. I hardly use it anymore rarely if at all. great program still though.
