help choosing DIY Build Controller

i'm not sure if this is really the right place to be posting this but i'm sure i'll get told,

right here goes with the question

i'm looking at building a mini version of i cnc router i have been planning, anyway i have 3 small motors i brought and was looking at using them for this build, (have 3 bigger ones for the really machine if this works and will need proper drivers then), but i will attach a photo of the motors i'm looking at using so you all can get an idea of what controller i will need and the voltage to run them at

i have a 24v dc 6amp supply i was thinking of useing but like i asked just need to know the voltage to run these motors on and the best DIY build controller and current limiting restiors

anyway i need to know a few thing but i'm limited on what i have to give you all

Hi William,

The motors look like they are 6 wire which indicates they are 'bipolar' and they are 200 step, which is good for CNC use.
Just about any of the cheap 'Made in China' 3 axis, bipolar driver boards (advertised on ebay) should be OK for your needs.
Stepper motors are usually driven at 5 or so times there rated voltage but their rated current must never be exceeded. (the 3 axis driver boards usually have current adjustment so you can match the drive to the motor).
Your PSU will be just fine at 24 Volts (which is pretty much the usual voltage to use).

umm, 6 wire motors are Unipolar, not bipolar. You don't want a drive that uses current limiting resistors, as they are poor performing and wasteful. Besides the Ebay drives from China, you might want to look at Hobbycnc.com You'll need to solder it yourself, but it's a good performing drive designed for 6 wire motors.

I stand corrected.

6 wire motors can be wired as bipolar or unipolar the choice is yours.
Checkout the price of the controller for each configuration before deciding.

yes they are 6 wire motors with AWG26 wire on them if that helps anyone in helping me

but the other things i would like to know are as follows if anyone knows:

what voltage these motors listed above are rated at
what amperage i should set on the chosen drive
i already have the coil ohms which is 1.3Ω

and anything else that is required on this side before i choose what driver to buy

If it's any help the only 'Step Syn' (sanyo) motors I have which have 1.3 ohm coils are rated at 2 Amps/phase and these would be driven at 24 Volts.
As the part numbers you have are not readily identifiable to a current product there is a degree of doubt about their exact rating. In operation they should be warm to the touch but if they get hot then reduce the current.
