Closed loop controller alternatives?

Hello,
I am trying to find out what is available if the homebuilder wants to run closed loop, or double closed loop, and of course within a diy budget.

So far I am aware of the Cncbrain. If working, it does what I want, but I still miss reading some sucess stories from users. Price tag is ok if it works.

you can do closed loop as cheap or expensive as you want.

hardware encoder counting and step generation can be had for <100 dollars now. (pluto-p and mesa 7i43) You could still do it strait thru the printer port (counting encoders and outputing pwm/pdm) but you will be limited by speed. similar to this http://emergent.unpy.net/projects/01142347802

Well, learning about new possibilities every day, I can hopefully make up my mind when the machine is ready for the electronics.
The idea of using glass scales as feedback sounds good to me, as I am used to working with tight tolerances.
