Still working thru problems. Seams like i have exhausted Siemens tech support and this is more a machine problem then a controller problem. Original Thread is here. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...320#post505320 Working on a 1990 Motion Master CNC router with Siemens 810M controller. Lost both the CPU's RS232 port. I’ve repaired that. Now I am re-loading. Machine is up and TEA1, TEA2 & PCP are loaded. Upon booting I immediately get an alarm with error code "1720 ORD + X Working Area Limit." I have been to my Axial data (In Diagnostics under NC COMM) and have set all 4 of my axis limits to +/-99999999. I do not have any sort of feedback on my spindles so i have not set those limits. The softkey to home each axis is inoperative because of the alarm. Any ideas? What am I missing? |

| 1720 error problem resolved. Turns out that the +/-99999999 data that is causing this error is not in NC Comm. as the manual suggested. The data there is the software limits which is not referenced until you have initialized your axis. When you boot up, the 810M assumes your incremental encoders are at zero and compares that to the data in "Setting Data" -> "Common Axial". In this screen, you need to set your absolute physical min and max work areas. Once entered, reboot the controller and the 1720 errors go away. Hope this is helping someone out there. |

| mjhjenks, Just found this thread, glad your up & running. I run siemens 840D, anytime I do machine calibration, I always: 1) make my changes 2) Save everything 3) Shut down the machine 4) Re-start the machine Then all my changes are all good. .

| Thanks Switcher, I wish i could say i am up and running. I am closer but still fighting the controller. Right now i can not access the ref. axis soft key. Siemens thinks my 5008 bit 0 is set wrong which i will check tonight. Since i have 3 different sets of TEA1/TEA2/PCP and no notes i am having to plug thru this blind asking a question here and there to get a few minutes closer each night. Really wish MotionMasters was still around. Pat would have me up in a jiffy. |
