Rebuild of a 4x8 Accucut Router

Just picked up a 4x8 CNC that Virgina Tech had to cut aluminum. and wood. Looks to be in fair shape but the electronics need to be rebuilt. It has 4 steppers w/ 4wires each. The steppers are 1.48a Bipolar Series. The motor says that it is 170vdc.

I was thinking of using the G540 Gecko drive. Do you guys think that will work for my rebuild and what power supply would I need for these steppers to get the best performance out of them.
The guy that had it before had try to rebuilt it but he did not know what to do. I have a few things that may help me out. Old boards and a power supply.
    Thanks,
    Trell

If you measure the coil resistance, you can determine the rated voltage. 170 is probably the max. Sounds like they may be rather high inductance motors, and not a good choice for a G540. Replacing them might be a better option.
Are there any other specs on the motors?
Do you know the voltage of the current power supply?

Doing a little research, it looks like those motors are Pacific Scientific.

    Nema34

    316oz-in holding torque

They should have 4 wires? If so, I'd probably replace them. They have a very high inductance (27.6mH) and will need over 150V to get the best performance from them. The G540 can only provide 50V

If it were me, I'd probably go with either the 465oz, or 640oz motors here Page Title
    and use Gecko G203V drives.

It looks like your Z axis has a Nema 23 motor. A 381 oz motor and either a G251 or G203V should be big improvement there as well.

Thanks for the info I think that this set up may give me speed and torque
    2: NEMA 34 906 oz-inSteppper Motors 4 Axis CNC Kit: $994.26

    A: 4 PCS KL-8060, 80DC, 6.0A Bipolar Driver

    B: 4 PCS EMA 34-906 oz-in Stepper Motors

C:1 PCS C10 Breakout board (E-Stop or Limit Switch can be wired)

    D: KL-6515 65VDC,15A, 5, 12VDC Power Supply

Do you think that this will work
It does not have the gekco drives
I just dont want to wait 2 mins for the table to go from one end to the other

I need some help with the set up in mach3 on the motor tuning.... In the picture you can see the layout that I have. I have the driver board set at 1/4 step. I need to know how many steps for an inch of movement. If it was just one reduction drive I may be able to figure it out myself but this is too far advanced for me to figure out. If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Not exactly sure what type of rack and pinion you have. But here's a guess.

1/2 turn of the pinion moves one inch.
You have a 3:1 reduction, so it's 1-1/2 turns of the motor per inch. 1/4 stps means 800 steps per rev, x1.5 = 1200 steps/inch

If that's not right, try using the Axis Calibration on the Settings page, right above the Reset button.

Are you still using the stock motors and drives?
