I'm a complete novice with pc - controller communication with anything other than ethernet, so bear with me!

We currently have a Bridgeport VMC with a Heidenhain TNC 370 Controller. This is connected to a very old Windows 95 based machine with an RS232 serial cable. The PC runs TNCServer which sets the programs up ready to be pulled across by the controller.

I want to update things a little and use one of our newer XP computers to communicate with the controller.

First things first - Hardware - I'm assuming a RS232 cable 25pin > 9pin.
Then I was hoping to run a 9 pin serial to USB convertor to plug into the XP computer. Will this work and anything else I need?

Software - I have Downloaded TNCRemoNT from the Heidenhain website. This has a version of TNCServer with it. Is this all I need to communicate with the controller?

Any advice will be extremely appreciated

Matt
