Howdy Folks,
I stumbled across this forum on Google and am hoping that someone would kindly help me with an ethernet problem or point me in the right direction.
Let me start out by saying I am computer programmer trying to help out a friend of mine - I've never even seen a CNC machine before, so please overlook my newbiness
Little background - my friend got a deal on an LNC M510i last January and uses it to cut sheetrock. The local company he purchased it from went out of business right after it was delivered and we've had zero luck getting support from the manufacturer.
The issue is that according to the manuals, it should be possible to remotely monitor and control the machine via ethernet. Additionally, we should be able to share a folder on the remote computer where the machine can grab drawings from.
After reading all of the manuals, the first step requires us use the installation disks to add networking capabilities to it. And then I found out that no installation disks were delivered with the machine!
Secondly, the display on the machine is showing IP Addresses rather than a share name (the manual shows it as LNCDOS). The manuals don't discuss the use of IP's at all, instead indicating the program needs to be closed and configured via DOS. There is no possible way to do this that I can see.
I did make up a cross-over type CAT 5 cable per the manual and can successfully ping the machine, but I cannot access it at all.
Currently, they can only use the machine in some sort of manual mode, which they do, but obviously this has fallen well short of their expectations to be able to make full use of it.
Incidentally, we're located in Greece and there is no local support available that we could find. I have spoken to someone in the US who distributes them, but my followup emails went unanswered.
My last option, which carries some risk is to remove the machines hard drive, clone it and try to pick through everything internally to find a solution.
If anyone is familiar with this model and can help, it would surely be appreciated. Meanwhile, I'll continue to Google it and search the net for whatever I can find.
Thanks - looks like a great forum!
Mike

Hi Helmut,
Just wanted to thank you publicly for your help today - after our conversation, I want over to the controller and 5 minutes later everything was up and running perfectly!
My friend Yianni who does not speak English asked me to also extend his thanks to you - you've made him very, very happy.
